Applications are invited from the eligible candidates to fill up the posts of Postman/Mail
guard in following Postal divisions/units in H.P Postal Circle in the pay scale of Rs 5200-20200+ Grade
Pay Rs 2000/-: -

The vacancies notified are likely to vary/ change without any prior intimation.
1. Age Limit: - 18 – 27 years (Upper age limit relax able for Government servants up to 40
years, for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes up to five years and for
candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes up to three years in accordance with the
instructions issued by the Government of India.)
Scale of Pay: 5200 – 20200 with Grade Pay of Rs. 2000 +admissible allowance.
Note: - The crucial date for determining the age limit shall be the closing date for receipt of
application forms .
2. No TA/DA is admissible
3. Probation: - The candidates selected will be on probation for two years.
4. Education Qualification: -Matriculation from a recognized Board or University .
5. Disqualification: - A Person
(a) Who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living or
(b) Who having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person
will not be eligible for appointment to the said post.
Provided that the Central Government may, if satisfied that such marriage is
permissible under the personal law applicable to such person and the other party to the marriage
and there are other grounds for so doing, exempt any person from the operation of this rule.
6. MODE OF DISPATCH of application: - Application forms should be sent by
Registered Post or Speed post only to ensure ready proof and to avoid any possible manipulations.
The applications received by hand, by ordinary post or by other means will not be entertained at all.
7. Pattern and Syllabus for Examination to fill up the Posts of Postman by Direct
Recruitment from Open Market
Candidates shall be subjected to an Aptitude Test of the level of 10th class/matriculation covering the
following subjects/topics.
I Total Marks- 100 :- There will be one paper comprising of following four parts
Part ‘A’ - 25 marks – 25 questions on General knowledge, Reasoning and Analytical Ability –
Multiple Choice Questions
Part ’B’ - 25 marks- 25 questions of Mathematics - Multiple Choice Questions
Part ‘C ’ - Two segments
(i) 25 marks –English language- Objective Type/ Multiple Choice Questions
(ii) 25 marks – Hindi language- Objective Type/ Multiple Choice Questions
II DURATION OF EXAMINATION:90 minutes
III QUALIFYING MARKS:
a. Parts A and B – Minimum 10 marks for OC, 8 marks for SC/ ST and 9 marks for OBC
candidates in each part.
b. Part C (Two segments) – Minimum 10 marks for OC, 8 marks for SC/ ST and 9 marks for OBC
candidates in each segment.
c. Part C (One segment of 50 marks) – Minimum 20 marks for OC, 16 marks for SC/ ST and 18
marks for OBC candidates.
d. 40% marks for OC, 33 marks for SC/ST and 37 marks for OBC candidates in aggregate.
8. The Applicants are required to enclose attested copies of all supporting documents, two
attested photos and self-addressed envelope with Rs. 40/- (speed Post Charges) stamp along with
the Application. The envelope addressed to concerned
Divisional Head must bear name of post for which the application is being sent in Bold Letter. All
the applications will be treated as provisional and admit card will be issued subject to his/her
satisfying the eligibility conditions.
9. Selection Procedure: - The marks obtained in Aptitude Test will be taken to draw merit in
respect of each division and selection will be purely on merit basis i.e. marks taken in Aptitude Test.
The candidate may apply for more than one Postal Division, but he has to appear in Aptitude Test
only for one division.
10. Last date of receipt of Applications by the Divisions is fixed as 08-07-2013 for normal
areas and for those residing in Lahaul & Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh and Pangi sub division of
Chamba District is 15-7-2013.
The Aptitude Test will be preferably conducted on a common date i.e. 18-08-2013
(tentative subject to availability of accommodation ) for all the Postal divisions in Himachal
Pradesh centrally at Circle HQ i.e. Shimla.
Instructions relating to submission of application: -
1. Applicants should read the eligibility conditions and follow the instructions carefully.
2. One envelope should contain application of one candidate only.
3. Original documents should not be submitted.
11. Examination Fee: - The applicants have to deposit Rs. 100 in Unclassified Receipts in
any Post Office and submit Original receipt along with application.
12. Requirement to serve in the Army Postal Service
Any person appointed to the posts specified in the said schedule shall be liable to serve in the Army
Postal Service in /India or abroad , as required.
13. Power to Relax
Where the Central Government is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient so to do, it may be
order and for reasons to be recorded in writing, relax any of the provisions of these rules with
respect to any class or category of persons.
14. Saving
Nothing in the Rules shall affect reservations and other concessions required to be provided for the
scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, the Ex- Serviceman, Other Backward Classes and Other
special categories of persons in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government from
time to time in this regard.
